titleOfInvention Language-acquisition apparatus
abstract A stand-alone, hand-held scanning apparatus, which provides a user with a spoken form and an interpretation of the text. The apparatus provides a text-to-speech synthesis of a portion of text followed by an automatic translation to a second language. The automatic translation may be displayed in parallel with the text-to-speech synthesis. Interpretation may include translation of difficult words and phrases, in context, or rephrasing of difficult words and phrases. These may be audible or displayed. This apparatus may also be used for teaching correct pronunciation of a portion of text and synthesizing music.
