abstract A master cylinder assembly (10) in which the casing defines an annular seal groove (24j, 24h, 26k, 26y, 26x) defining a forward bore portion (24d) forwardly of the annular groove and a rearward bore portion (26e) rearwardly of the annular groove. The front end (14g) of the piston in the retracted position of the piston is received in the forward bore portion (24z) to provide total bearing support for the piston and axial grooves (24p) are provided in the forward bore portion to allow recuperative fluid to flow from an associated reservoir via a port (24w) which opens into seal groove (24j, 24h, 26k, 26y, 26x) and through the axial grooves to the forward bore portion forwardly of the retreating piston(14). $i(.J)
