abstract The invention relates to a method and a system for collecting the meter reading information of several consumer meters (N1 N6) that are provided in different locations. According to said method, during a data collection trip, the meter reading information of the consumer meters is transferred to a mobile data acceptance device (D) in accordance with identification data of the respective consumer meter (N1 N6). The identification data of the relevant consumer meter (N1 N6) is respectively transmitted to a central data collection point (Z), via a mobile radio telephone system (T, B), within a specific time period, which begins with the transfer of the meter reading information from a respective consumer meter (N1 N6) to the data acceptance device (D).
