The invention utilises preparation of an organelle termed the phagosome as an integrated system to allow the identification and manipulation of protein and lipid components of signalling pathways. The invention also relates to methods for the treatment and prevention of pathogen-mediated disease by enhancing the efficency of cellular defences against pathogen infection.
