titleOfInvention | Hiv treatment with benzimidazoles |
abstract | A pharmaceutical composition that can be used to treat HIV is disclosed. The composition comprising an effective amount of a benzimidazole of the formula: (I), wherein X is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, oxychloro alkyl of less than 7 carbon atoms or alkoxy of less than 7 carbon atoms; n is a positive integer of 4 or less; and R is hydrogen, alkylcarbamoyl wherein the alkyl group has less than 7 carbon atoms, or an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and R2 is NHCOOR1 wherein R1, is an aliphatic hydrocarbon of less than 7 carbon atoms. The pharmaceutically acceptable organic or inorganic addition salts thereof are also used herein. The preferred compounds are methyl-(butylcarbamoyl)-2benzimidazolecarbamate and 2-methoxycarbonylaminobenzimidazole. In the present invention it has been discovered that the compounds described above are useful for treatment of HIV infection when used alone or in combination with other anti-viral agents. |
