titleOfInvention Magnetic couplings for imparting simultaneous rotary and longitudinal oscillations
abstract Magnetic couplings (16) impart simultaneous reciprocal rotary and longitudinal motions or oscillations to a work element (14). In preferred embodiments, the magnetic couplings (16) include a drive shaft (26-1), an output shaft (38) coaxially aligned with the drive shaft (26-1) relative to a central axis (A1), and drive and driven magnet assemblies (32, 36) connected operatively to the drive and output shafts (26-1, 38), respectively. The drive and driven magnet assemblies (32, 36) include permanent magnets (32-1, 32-2, 36-2,3) arranged to translate continuous rotation of the drive shaft (26-1) into simultaneous rotary and longitudinal movements of the driven magnet assembly (36) relative to the drive axis A1). A resilient support member (50) exhibiting torsional and longitudinal resiliency is operatively connected to the output shaft (38) to allow for such simultaneous rotary and longitudinal movements thereof.
