abstract A mold clamping device of an injection molding machine, comprising a mold clamping means pressingly connecting a movable die plate (9) to a fixed die plate (5) through tie bars (15) having mold clamping cylinders formed in two stages of large diameter cylinders (11) and small diameter cylinders (31) and rams formed in two stages of large diameter rams (13) and small diameter rams (25), wherein the large diameter rams (13) are fitted into the large diameter cylinders (11), the small diameter rams (25) are fitted into the small diameter cylinders (31), the base parts of the tie bars (15) are directly coupled to the small diameter rams (25), large oil chambers (11c, 11d) are provided on both sides of the large diameter rams (13), and small oil chambers (11e) are provided on the tie bar connection sides of the small diameter rams (25), and an oil pressure is supplied properly to the large and small oil chambers of the mold clamping cylinders to properly move the tie bars (15), whereby the mold clamping device can be manufactured at a low cost, and a wasteful time required to eliminate clearances between the ring grooves of the tie bars and the meshing teeth of a half nut produced by the adjustment of a mold thickness can be reduced.
