abstract A method for cleaning an article having an oil adhered thereto, which comprises pre-cleaning the article with a detergent of an oil dissolving type comprising at least one of organic solvents having high solubility in an oil, such as propylene glycol alkyl ether, and then cleaning it with a detergent of an oil exfoliating type which is of a uniform solution or an emulsion formed from water and at least one organic solvent used in said detergent of an oil dissolving type. The method can be employed for carrying out the cleaning of an article having an oil adhered thereto which provides an article cleaned to a high degree of cleaning with an easy and simple manner and with a decreased time.
