The invention relates to hydrophilic, open-cell, elastic foams consisting of melamine/formaldehyde resins. Said foams can be obtained by (a) heating and cross-linking an aqueous solution or dispersion, containing, respectively, at least one melamine/formaldehyde precondensate, an emulsifier, an expanding agent and a hardener, a foam being formed, (b) subsequently tempering the foam for a period of 1 to 180 minutes at 120 to 300 °C, volatile parts being removed, and (c) treating the foam with at least one polymer during or after the tempering process, said polymer containing primary and/or secondary amino groups and having a molar mass of at least 300. The invention also relates to a method for producing the hydrophilic, open-cell, elastic foams and to their use in hygiene products for absorbing, distributing and immobilising bodily fluids. |
