Process for the hydroformylation of alkenes |
abstract |
The present invention concerns a process for the hydroformylation of an alkene or a mixture of alkenes in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a rhodium precursor and phosphane ligands. According to the invention, the hydroformylation is carried out in the presence of a catalyst system comprising phosphane ligand(s) containing cyclic aliphatic or aromatic groups, of which at least one contains a substituent bonded to said cyclic aliphatic or aromatic group via a carbon atom. The invention also provides a novel phosphane ligand. The process for hydroformylation of alkenes has a significantly higher selectivity to the desired branched reaction product than the processes of prior art, while maintaining at least a reasonable initial rate of reaction. |
