abstract | Present invention describes a novel method for manufacturing of husk from Lepidium sativum seeds, which possesses viscofying properties and is suitable for use as a thickening agent in diverse applications. The method of manufacture comprises the step of (i) crushing the seeds to average particle size of between 250 to 250 νm, (ii) subjecting the crushed mass to solvent extraction to remove lipophilic constituents of Lepidium sativum husk. The solvent is selected from methylene chloride and chloroform. The method described herein is simple, cost effective and involves very few steps. Evaluation of the novel viscofying agent was done to establish its viscosity building properties. various industrial uses of this novel viscofying agent have been illustrated. |
