abstract The invention relates to alkali or alkaline earth metal benzoate particles having a mean particle diameter (d50) smaller than 500 νm and a flow value according to the vessel method of ≤ 4 and to a fluidized-bed spray granulation process for the production of alkali or alkaline earth metal benzoate particles. The invention further relates to a process for the production of compacts comprising alkali or alkaline earth metal benzoate by direct compression of alkali or alkaline earth metal benzoate particles with a bulk density higher than 400 kg/m3 and an angle of repose smaller than 40°. The invention also relates to the use of alkali or alkaline earth metal benzoate as a carrier and to the use of alkali or alkaline earth metal benzoate particles according to the invention in a capsule or a sachet.
