abstract | An open-ring metathesis copolymer or a product of hydrogenation thereof which bears hydroxyl groups or hydroxycarbonyl groups and has a desired monomer composition and a high molecular weight can be obtained by conducting ring-opening metathesis copolymerization of a norbornene monomer bearing a hydroxyl or hydroxycarbonyl group with an at least tricyclic unsubstituted norbornene monomer in the presence of a catalyst containing as the main component an organoruthenium compound to which a neutral electron-donating ligand coordinates, and, if necessary, hydrogenating the obtained copolymer. The open-ring metathesis copolymer and product of hydrogenation thereof thus obtained are characterized by being excellent in resistance to water absorption, close adhesion to metal or other materials, and compatibility with other compounds including crosslinking agents, exhibiting high heat resistance, and being reduced in the signal delay or signal noise occurring in a high-frequency region. |
