titleOfInvention Transgenic plants protected against parasitic plants
abstract Transgenic plants which are resistant to damage from parasitic plants and methods for generating such transgenic plants are provided. The transgenic plants are genetically engineered to contain a lytic toxin gene such as the cecropin gene sarcotoxin IA. Expression of the gene is driven by an inducible promoter such as a parasite induced promoter, or a promoter which selectively expresses the gene in a particular region of the plant, e.g. the root system.
