abstract The invention relates to a method for producing a pure boswellic acid from a boswellic acid mixture, comprising the following steps; (a) acetylation by a suitable acetylation reagent or deacetylation by a suitable deacetylation reagent, (b) oxidation by a suitable oxidation reagent or reduction by a suitable reduction reagent. The invention also relates to boswellic acids which are produced according to said method as well as pharmaceutical formulations thereof.
