titleOfInvention Liquid crystal display
abstract A high definition, wide view angle liquid crystal display employing nematic liquid crystal in which both memory performance and wide view angle display characteristics are satisfied while reducing power consumption. The liquid crystal display employing nematic liquid crystal comprises a pair of transparent substrates (SUB1, SUB2), a liquid crystal layer (LCL) interposed between the pair of transparent substrates (SUB1, SUB2), an electrode group for applying an electric field having a component substantially parallel with the plane of these substrates to the liquid crystal layer (LCL), and a orientation layer interposed between the liquid crystal layer (LCL) and at least one of the pair of transparent substrates (SUB1, SUB2) with the orientation of liquid crystal being regulated to a plurality of directions where all the angles formed in the substrate plane are substantially equal to each other and all the rising angles from the substrate plane with respect to the respective regulated orientations of liquid crystal are substantially equal to 0.
