titleOfInvention | Helicobacter pylori sialic acid binding adhesin, saba and saba - gene |
abstract | An isolated Helicobacter pylori protein binding to sialyl-Lewis x antigen and having an approximate molecular weight of 66kDa and comprising the amino acid sequences SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, and sialyl-Lewis x antigen-binding H.pylori alleles of the protein, recombinant forms of the protein, such as a protein having the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 5, or the protein alleles, and sialyl-Lewis x antigen binding portions of the proteins, are disclosed. The protein or portion of protein maybe used as a medicament or diagnostic antigen, and can be used in a method of determining the presence of sialyl-Lewis x antigen-binding H.pylori bacteria in a biological sample. Further, a DNA molecule encoding the protein or portion of protein, a vector comprising the DNA molecule, and a host transformed with the vector are comprised by the disclosure. Additionally, a method of determining the presence of sialyl-Lewis x or related carbohydrate structures in a sample, is described. This method has a wide range of different applications. |
