abstract An artefact which is suitable for use as an implant is provided. The artefact includes a body having at least an outer surface layer of a calcium phosphate-based material. The outer surface layer has a surface area of at least 1,5m2/g. A plurality of micropores are provided in at least the outer surface layer of the body. The micropores have a maximum dimension of up to about 150µm.
