abstract The invention relates to a method which reduces or prevents lesions to cerebral tissues after ischaemia or brain/cerebral traumas, involving the separate or combined administration and effect of enzyme inhibitors of alanyl-aminopeptidase (APN) and dipeptidylpeptidase IV (DP IV) or enzymes having the same similar substrate specificity. The invention demonstrates that in order to prevent or treat the above-mentioned indications, the separate or combined application of inhibitors of the above-mentioned enzymes or corresponding preparations and forms of administration are suitable.
