titleOfInvention Novel gonadotropin-releasing hormone, precursor peptides thereof and genes encoding the same
abstract A novel gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) occurring in octopus which is a mollusk is found out and the structure and action thereof are clarified, thereby providing novel peptides which are usable as reagents for clarifying the correlation between the structure and activity of GnRH and signal processing mechanism in the nerve system of higher animals and as basic compounds for developing pesticides or drugs. Namely, peptides represented by the following amino acid sequence formula (I) and having a GnRH activity: <Glu-Zaa-Zaa-His-Zaa-Ser-Zaa-Zaa-Zaa Zaa-Pro-Gly-NH2 (I) wherein <Glu represents pyroglutamic acid; and Zaa represent an arbitrary amino acid; in particular, a peptide represented by the following amino acid sequence formula (1): <Glu-Asn-Tyr-His-Phe-Ser-Asn-Gly-Trp-His-Pro-Gly-NH2 (I) wherein <Glu represents pyroglutamic acid.
