titleOfInvention | Sodium-free chondroitin |
abstract | The present invention provides a composition comprising sodium-free calcium chondroitin sulfate incorporating, by weight, about 80-95 % of a chondroitin sulfate salt comprising 0.5 % or less of sodium. Preferably, the sodium-free chondroitin sulfate is calcium chondroitin sulfate. The sodium-free chondroitin sulfate can be prepared by a process in which the sodium in sodium chondroitin sulfate is replaced with another counter-ion such as calcium. A sodium-free chondroitin sulfate composition such as calcium chondroitin sulfate can be suitable for oral administration as a dietary supplement or a pharmaceutical preparation, and can be utilized in methods of preventing or reducing joint pain, osteoarthritis or high blood cholesterol. |
