abstract | A method and apparatus for performing reconstructive knee surgery. The steps of the method are : 1) harvest a graft ligament (25) consisting entirely of soft tissue; 2) compacting the graft in order to significantly reduce the cross-sectional area and increase the density of the collagen present in the graft material; and 3) implant the compressed tendon in the human body. The apparatus includes a graft ligament and a compacting instrument (75, 80, 82). The graft ligament cross-sectional area is reduced by compressing the tendon with one of the devices. |
