titleOfInvention Hemi-lumbar interbody spinal implant having an asymmetrical leading end and method for installation thereof
abstract An interbody spinal implant (200) adapted for placement across an intervertebral space formed across the height of a disk space between two adjacent vertebral bodies (v) is disclosed. The implant (200) has an asymmetrical leading end (202) adapted to sit upon the more peripheral areas, such as the apophyseal rim and the apophyseal rim area, of the vertebral end plate region of the vertebral bodies (v) without protruding therefrom. The asymmetrical leading end (202) allows for the safe use of an implant of maximum length for the implantation space into which it is installed. The implant (200) can also include an asymmetric trailing end (204) adapted to sit upon the more peripheral areas of the vertebral end plate region of the vertebral bodies. The implant (200) can be made of bone, or a material other than bone suitable for the intended purpose.
