abstract The present invention relates to the metal complexes of tris azo dyes of general formula (4), wherein R<1> represents an aryl radical that is mono- or poly-, e.g. 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-fold, substituted with OH, O(C1-C6)-alkyl, O(C1-C6)-alkyl-COOM, O(C1-C6)-alkyl-SO3M, O(hydroxy(C1-C6)-alkyl, (C1-C6)-alkyl, COOM, SO3M, SO2NH2, SO2N(hydroxy(C1-C6)-alkyl)2, SO2NH(C1-C6)-alkyl, SO2N((C1-C6)-alkyl)2, NH2, NH(C1-C6)-alkyl, NHacyl, NHaryl, N(hydroxy(C1-C6)-alkyl)2, N((C1-C6)-alkyl)2 and/or halogen; R<2> stands for OH, O(C1-C6)-alkyl, COOM or SO3M; R<3>, R<4> and R<5> are hydrogen or a substituent; R<6> stands for a non-substituted or a mono- or poly-substituted, mononuclear or binuclear, carbocycli or heterocyclic aromatic, an equally substituted pyrazole radical or an equally substituted pyridone radical. The dyes can be used for dyeing and imprinting natural and synthetic fibre materials, recording liquids, especially according to the ink jet method, liquid adjustments for colouring paper pulp and as a colouring agent for electrophotographic toners, powder lacquers and colour filters which contain the inventive dyes.
