Process for reducing pollutants from the exhaust of a diesel engine |
abstract |
This invention relates to a process for reducing the level of pollutants in the exhaust of a diesel engine, comprising: operating said diesel engine using as the fuel a water-diesel fuel emulsion; and contacting the exhaust gas from said diesel engine with an oxidation catalyst. The oxidation catalyst may be in the form of a cellular monolith (10). The cellular monolith (10) may be a ceramic extrusion (12). The monolith (10) is in the form of a honeycomb structure having small, parallel channels (20) running axially through it. The channel walls are coated with an inorganic oxide washcoat (16) and the catalyst (18) is deposited on the washcoat (16). Thick washcoat deposits (22) are formed in the cell corners of the washcoat (16). |
