Ethylene-base copolymers comprising ethylene with an a-olefin, wherein the dyad chain distribution [EA] of ethylene (E) and the α-olefin (A) measured by 13C NMR spectrometry and the ethylene content α (mol %) measured by 13C NMR spectrometry satisfy the relationships represented by the following formulae (1) | (2): 0.7-2.8(0.5-α/100)2-|0.25(0.5-α/100)|≤[EA]≤2α/100 wherein | | stands for an absolute value; and (2) 10≤α≤90 and the α-olefin has from 3 to 20 carbon atoms. Namely, ethylene-base copolymers having a high viscosity index and a low pour point and being useful as base oils or viscosity index-elevating agents. |
