The present invention provides a compound which is (R)-3-(4-chlorobiphenyl-sulfonyl)2-hydroxy-2-(phenylthio)methylpropionic acid of formula (Ia) or a pharmaceutical acceptable salt thereof in enantiomerically pure form. The compound is an inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases. |
