Endogenous gene expression assay |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a method for evaluating the possible physiological effects of a compound and/or a composition by assaying a cellular response thereto through measurement of changes in expression levels of at least one endogenous gene. The present invention provides new means to identify environmental chemicals or pharmaceutical compositions that interact with, amongst others, the endocrine system. The present invention thus relates to a method for detecting chemicals that present a health threat. Furthermore, the scope of the present invention includes means to investigate the specific response of an individual to a certain treatment as well as a cellular state of disease through assaying the expression level(s) of one or more endogenous marker gene(s) in a sample taken from such an individual. The results of such investigations may be used in diagnosis and in therapy. |
