abstract 1,25-dihydroxy-5,6-trans vitamin D compounds and their derivatives, especially the esters, are useful in the treatment or prevention of diseases characterised by abnormall cell differentiation or cell proliferation, as well as other diseases or conditions treatable with vitamin D compounds, such as osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases, and are not associated with the degree of hypercalcaemia observed wtih 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D3.
