The invention relates to branched, substantially saturated ester oils which are obtained as follows: (a) dimerizing unsaturated fatty acids having 16 to 22 carbon atoms in a manner kwon per se; (b) separating the monomer fraction produced during dimerization; (c) converting the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acids contained in said fraction into the corresponding fatty acid methyl ester, (d) hydrogenating the branched, substantially unsaturated fatty acid methyl ester to obtain the corresponding branched, substantially unsaturated fatty alcohol and the double bonds and (e) esterifying said alcohol in a manner kwon per se. |
