abstract A bone measuring method for morphologically measuring a bone based on tomographic images of a bone to be examined or a joint; more specifically, a bone measuring method which can separate automatically, with a high speed and a good reproducibility, a cortical bone from a cancellous bone based on binarized images of a bone to be examined or a joint section, and which can provide non-destructively cortical bone-cancellous bone-separated 3-D images based on which a 3-D bone structure/bone strength can be analyzed, characterized by having a template image extraction step for determining template images, continuous along all sections, of the interior of the bone surrounded by the cortical bone from binarized images of the sections of the bone to be examined, and separating the cortical bone from the cancellous bone by a product of the template images and the binarized images.
