titleOfInvention Novel intramedullary nail fixed to the bone by bolts without reaming and more resistant nail requiring reaming
abstract The invention relates to a system for the treatment of fractures, non-union of fractures, misunion and dissymmetry of the tibia, femur and humerus. The system comprises a nail that can be used without reaming the medullary canal. Other larger diameters requiring reaming are also provided. Said nail is characterized in that it is made of stainless steel type 316 LS or titanium alloys. Said nail has a wide proximal section with two holes and a body and a narrower distal section with a distal slot instead of a hole. Bolts are inserted through the proximal holes and a bolt having a larger diameter is also inserted through the slot. Conical screws having different lengths and diameters are also provided. Once the nail has been placed in the medullary canal, said screws tightly interlock the cortical bone and the nail thereby considerably enhancing stability. The instrument used to place said novel nail has three parts: the instrument stabilizing the nail and the part for finding the holes and the slot of the nail , the part for finding the holes and the slot of the nail and the instrument precisely indicating the lateral location of the nail . Said instrument makes it possible to easily locate the holes and the slot of the nail without having to use image intensifiers or radiographs for said purpose. The aim of the invention is to provide an osteosynthesis system having a reamed or unreamed locked intramedullary nail to locate the holes and the slot of the nail and an additional very tight fixation to completely fill the medullary canal. The system also provides a more resistant nail with medullary reaming. Surgery involving open locked intramedullary nailing can be performed.
