abstract | A method for the surface modification of a molded article of a plastic comprising treating a molded article of a plastic with an oxygen-containing gas such as oxygen, carbon monoxide, a nitrogen oxide or a sulfur oxide in the presence of an imide compound such as N-hydroxy, phthalimide which is represented by formula (1): wherein R?1 and R2¿ may be the same or different and each represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a cycloalkyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, a carboxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or an acyl group, and R?1 and R2¿ may be bonded to each other to form together a double bonding or an aromatic or non-aromatic ring, and X represents an oxygen atom or a hydroxyl group; and a method for modifying a polymer comprising treating the polymer with an oxygen-containing gas such as oxygen, carbon monoxide, a nitrogen oxide or a sulfur oxide in the presence of an imide compound which is represented by formula (1). |
