A process for producing a 3-alkoxy-1-propanol having an alcoholic-impurity content of 0.3 wt.% or lower, which comprises reacting acrolein having a propionaldehyde content of 1 wt.% or lower with a C1-4 alcohol to yield a 3-alkoxy-1-propanal, hydrogenating it in the reactor to yield a 3-alkoxy-1-propanol and simultaneously reduce the residual aldehyde compound concentration in the crude hydrogenation product mixture to 0.5 wt.% or lower, and distilling the resultant crude hydrogenation product mixture; a solvent (a) which is a 1,3-propanediol alkyl ether, a 1,3-propane dialkyl ether acetate, or a mixture of these; and a solvent for resists, a detergent for lithography, a rinse for lithography, a solvent for resist compositions, a resist composition, or a photoresist resin composition for printed-circuit board production which each comprises or contains the solvent (a). |
