abstract A method for the preparation of radio labelled acrylic acid monomer including the steps of adding at least one radio labelled compound selected from the group consisting of malonic acid, malonic ester and malononitrile to paraformaldehyde or formaldehyde; heating the mixture in the presence of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of alkoxide, pyridine and an aniline or derivative thereof; dissolving the precipitate, preferably in an aqueous solvent; and extracting the product, preferably with an organic solvent.
