titleOfInvention | Method for producing [1,1':4',11']-terphenyl compounds |
abstract | The invention relates to a method for producing [1,1':4',1']-terphenyl compounds of formula (1), wherein R is hydrogen or a (C1-C4) alkyl radical, R1 represents hydrogen, a (C¿1?-C4) alkyl radical or a (C1-C4) alkoxy radical and R?2¿ is hydrogen, a straight-chain (C¿1?-C12) alkyl radical, an unsubstituted phenyl radical or a phenyl radical substituted by one or two (C1-C4) alkyl groups or (C1-C4) alkoxy groups or a -(CH2)xOR?3¿ radical, wherein x stands for 1 to 4 and R3 for a (C¿1?-C4) alkyl radical. According to said method, a metal aryl of formula (2), wherein A stands for a monovalent metal or MeX, whereby Me is a bivalent metal and X is CI, Br or I and R?2¿ stands for A, a tri-substituted silyl radical or has the meaning given in formula (1) (excepting hydrogen), is reacted with a boric acid ester at a temperature of -80 to 40 °C in the presence of an inert solvent. The reaction product is converted by hydrolysis into a boronic acid of formula (3). The boronic acid, a boronic acid anhydride, obtainable from boronic acid by dehydration, or a mixture of boronic acid and boronic acid anhydride is reacted with an alcohol and the boronic acid ester is reacted with a biphenyl compound of formula (4), wherein D stands for CI, Br, I, O¿3?S-CnF2n+1 or for N2?+Y-¿, (whereby Y- is CIO¿4?-, BF4- or HSO¿4?-) at a temperature ranging from 40 to 180 °C in the presence of a catalyst, an acid-binding agent and a polar solvent. |
