abstract |
A catalyst for polymerizing styrene and other monomer(s) which is capable of efficiently and inexpensively producing a styrene polymer having a syndiotactic structure. The catalyst comprises (A) a transition metal compound, (B) an oxygenic compound and/or a compound capable of reacting with the transition metal compound to form an ionic complex, (C) a specific metal compound, preferably a specific organoaluminum compound represented by the following general formula: ((R1)3CO)n-Al-(R2)3-n (wherein R1 represents a C¿1-30? aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a C6-30 aromatic hydrocarbon group, etc.; R?2¿ represents a hydrocarbon group; and n is 1 or 2), and (D) an alkylating agent which is used according to need. The process for producing a styrene polymer comprises using the catalyst. |
