titleOfInvention Method for determining oil quality and oil quality sensor
abstract The invention relates to a method for determining oil quality using a sensitive layer which is configured such that a component which forms in oil as it ages under the conditions prevailing in an internal combustion engines, can be specifically incorporated in or removed from said layer. According to the invention the analyte tested is at least one acid component which forms during the use of oil. The sensitive layer comprises at least one ceramic material which can be produced on the basis of a sol-gel phase. The invention also relates to an oil quality sensor used with the above method for determining oil quality. The material for the sensitive layer of the oil quality sensor can be obtained, for example, by conversion of certain amino-substituted silanes. The particular advantage of the sol-gel phase is that it renders the sensitive layer of the oil quality sensor especially resistant to the conditions in which it is used.
