abstract The invention relates to a multilayer nacreous pigment which is based on a lamellar substrate consisting of a material with a low refractive index of between 1.35 and 1.8 and which has at least the following: (i) a first layer consisting of a material with a refractive index of more than 1.8; (ii) optionally, a second layer consisting of a material with a low refractive index of between 1.35 and 1.8; (iii) a semi-transparent metal layer which is applied to the substrate or to the layers (i) or (ii); and (iv) optionally, a re-coating; the substrate being lamellar silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide, boron oxide or magnesium fluoride.
