abstract |
Describes a coating composition for the preparation of abrasion resistant coating that contains: (a) from 5 to 75 weight percent, based on the total weight of the coating composition, of silane monomer(s): (i) glycidoxy [(C1-C3)alkyl]tri(C1-C4)alkoxysilane; and (ii) tetra (C1-C6)alkoxysilane, the weight ratio of (i) to (ii) ranging from 0.5:1 to 100:1; (b) a catalytic amount of aqueous acidic alumina sol, the sol having particulate alumina of an average particle size of not more than 200 nanometers; (c) a solvating amount of organic solvent; (d) a leveling amount of nonionic surfactant; and (e) water in an amount sufficient to form hydrolysates of the silane monomers. |
