Sanitary earthen products having a self-cleaning function against oily stains containing carboxyl such as fatty acids, fatty acid esters, metal soaps (soap scum), proteins, amino acids, bacteria and fungi, and adherend stains such as scale and urinary calculus. These products consist at least of an earthen substrate and a glaze layer provided as the outmost layer thereof in such a manner that a monovalent metal component and/or a metal component having a Pauling's electronegativity of 1 or less can be uniformly and continuously released all over the surface of the outmost glaze layer in a sufficient amount for imparting the self-cleaning function against the adherend stains to the surface of the outmost glaze layer and the metal components can be supplied to the whole face of the outmost layer from the outmost glaze layer and/or the earthen substrate. These sanitary earthen products are advantageous in that stains on the surface thereof can be readily removed by, for example, flushing without using any surfactant or scrubbing with brushes. |
