An enzyme capable of converting a ketone compound into an optically active amino compound via a transamination reaction and a process for producing an optically active amino compound by using this enzyme. (S)-α-Phenethylamine:pyruvate transaminase which acts on (S)-α-phenethylamine and a ketone compound and catalyzes a transamination reaction whereby acetophenone and an amino compound corresponding to the ketone compound are formed; a process for producing an optically active amino compound by using the transaminase; and a method for culturing a microorganism producing the above transaminase wherein at least one inducer selected from the group consisting of propylamine, 1-butylamine, 2-butylamine, 2-pentylamine, isopropylamine and isobutylamine is added to the medium in culturing the transaminase-producing microorganism. |
