abstract | A system for applying controlled pressure profiles to biological samples is disclosed. It includes at least one chamber (20), which can receive biological samples (78) and gas from its source (34). One sample can be in first chamber (20), and the other in second chamber (24), or both in one chamber. A controller (32) is provided to control pressure in at least one chamber. A sensor (26) detects a pressure differential and transmits a signal to the controller. A flow adjustment device (16) adjusts the flow of gas into the first chamber, controls gas's flow in response to sensor's signal, and applies a pre-selected pressure to at least one chamber. A pressure dampener can be provided to reduce pressure oscillations in chambers. Also disclosed are related methods of detecting a pressure-induced change in a sample and of evaluating the efficacy of a substance in treating effects of pressure on a sample. |
