Catalyst compositions based on a source of a Group VIII metal and a ligand, together capable of forming a complex of formula (I) wherein Z represents a Group VIII metal selected from palladium, cobalt and nickel and (R?1R2)M1-R-M2(R3R4¿) represents the ligand, in which M?1 and M2¿, independently, represent a phosphorus, nitrogen, arsenic or antimony atom; R?1, R2, R3 and R4¿, independently, represent either identical or different, optionally polar substituted hydrocarbyl groups; and R represents a divalent organic bridging group in which the bridge connecting M?1 and M2¿ consists of four atoms, and which bridging group contains a single cyclic structure sharing an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond with said bridge. A process for preparing polymers of CO and one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds by contacting the monomers with said catalyst composition. |
