abstract A composition comprising a condensation resin of the formula: R1-A-Z-[-A-Z'-]¿n-R?2, wherein each A has structure (I), wherein Y is a phenyl group or a methyl group; X is an alkylene group or an arylene group; R?1 and R2¿ are each individually a C¿4?-C13 alkyl group, C4-C13 alkyl group substituted with 1 or more hydroxy groups, or a combination thereof; n is 0, 1, or 2 provided that, when n is 0, then Z is a covalent bond, and when n is 1 or 2, then Z is a C4-C13 alkylene group which is unsubstituted or substituted with 1 or more hydroxy groups; and Z' is Z, a covalent bond or a derivative of the condensation resin. An ink formulation comprising a pigment; a vehicle comprising the above condensation resin; and a liquid diluent. A method for preparing the above resin having an increased softening temperature comprising: (a) combining equimolar portions of benzoguanamine and a C4-C13 alkanol in solvent; (b) adjusting the temperature; (c) adding a bimolar portion of a diisocyanate compound having isocyanate groups with differing degrees of reactivity, wherein the bimolar portion is based on the equimolar portion of benzo-guanamine; (d) heating; (e) adding a second equimolar portion of the alkanol; (f) heating; and (g) removing the solvent.
