A zirconium-free neutral glass is provided that finds use in the pharmaceutical sector. The glass has a combination of alkali metal oxides of sodium, potassium and optionally lithium, and a controlled amount of aluminum oxide, which provides a zirconium-free and low-boron neutral glass having good hydrolytic stability, good acid and alkali stability and good devitrification properties. The glass includes the following components in % by weight: n n n n n n n n n n n n SiO 2 n 72-82, n n n B 2 O 3 n 3-8, n n n Al 2 O 3 n 5-8, n n n Na 2 O n 2.5-5.5, n n n K 2 O n 3.6-8.4, n n n Li 2 O n 0-0.7, n n n MgO n 0-0.7, n n n CaO n 0-0.4, and n n n TiO 2 n 0-5, wherein n n n Li 2 O + Na 2 O + K 2 O n 6.8-14.6, and n n n K 2 O/Na 2 O ratio n 0.7-3.4. |
