To provide a liquid crystal compound showing a large absolute value of dielectric anisotropy (|Δ∈|. A compound is represented by formula (1): n nwherein, in formula (1), Ra and Rb are fluorine, alkyl having 1 to 10 carbons or the like, and in the alkyl, at least one of —CH 2 — may be replaced by —O— or the like, however, Ra and Rb are not identical; A 1 , A 2 , A 3 , A 4 and A 5 are 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene or the like, and in the groups, at least one of hydrogen may be replaced by fluorine; Z 1 , Z 2 , Z 4 and Z 5 are a single bond or the like; Y 1 , Y 2 , Y 3 and Y 4 are hydrogen, fluorine or the like; and m, n, q and r are 0, 1 or 2, and a sum of m, n, q and r is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4. |
