abstract The invention provides an image forming method having a step of applying an ink containing a coloring material to a recording medium by an ink jet recording system and a step of applying a reaction liquid which reacts with the ink to the recording medium, in which the ink is brought into contact with the reaction liquid on the recording medium, thereby forming an image, wherein the reaction liquid contains an oil and fat component having an iodine value of 100 or more.
