The invention also provides for methods of treating and preventing oral inflammation, including gingivitis, periodontitis, and other forms of periodontal disease with compositions containing COX-2 inhibitors. Further, the invention provides methods for preventing systemic diseases beyond the oral cavity that are related to periodontal disease using the composition containing lipoxin analogs, COX-2 inhibitors, or both.
