abstract PDP ( 1 ) includes front plate ( 2 ) and rear plate ( 10 ). Front plate ( 2 ) has protective layer ( 9 ). Rear plate ( 10 ) has phosphor layers ( 15 ). Protective layer ( 9 ) includes a first metal oxide and a second metal oxide. In X-ray diffraction analysis, a peak of a base layer lies between a first peak of the first metal oxide and a second peak of the second metal oxide. The first and second metal oxides are two selected from the group consisting of MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO. A peak desorption temperature of CO 2 gas from protective layer ( 9 ) is less than 480° C.
